Travel, part 1

It’s not been an easy start. The final “pack” of the morning stretched on a bit long. This is nothing new. The final day leaving is always late. I’m glad we prepped the van for usage. It’s stuffed to the gills. So we hit the road rather late yesterday. Needless to say, the schedule was […]

The final day!

I’ve had a few folks ask when and where things were going with the move and I thought I should pass the info on. This Saturday is our last day in PA. Sunday morning Sue and I will be piling in the car and starting our drive out west with a short jaunt down to […]

EVDO modem test drive from Home to Oaks via varied routes. 8720 packets transmitted, 7906 packets received, 9% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 219.855/534.442/43264.023/1850.084 ms That’s damn good for a pennsy backroads route. Only lost AIM once. Nice.

3 metal containers. 1 for Texas. 2 for California. Packed and locked. BLARG! So many thanks to those who helped. And to those who offered too!

For the folks who are interested in helping with the pack, the details are here: http://www.crescendo.net/~phil/move.html I will be sending out emails and poking folks, but please, if you have time tomorrow,…er…today, please help!

The last few days have really been OMFG BOXES. Add to that some serious work deadlines and I’ve got bags under my eyes. I’ve done the startup-like all-nighter push before, so I know the feeling and stages. Right now I’m at the “eyes burning when getting up” stage. susandeer has the same problem. OMG BOXES […]

Do you want a banana?

Why do I think this will get into the_gneech‘s head and cause permanent damage? Oh yeah! I remember why! It’s because it did it to me. The video is on that wonderful cusp between creepy, surreal and cool. It reminds me of old-school MTV. Very very cool. The music really grabs my attention. It’s a […]

Aaaaand we’re back.

New motherboard in place. There appears to be no errors in the file system and no loss of data. I’m running a backup just in case. Approximate total downtime: 3 hours. Anyway, back to packing for the move.

All sites currently hosted on my colo machine are temporarily down. The downtime appears to be due to a fried capacitor on the motherboard which is currently being replaced in the data center. I’ll keep folks posted as details arise.

I want my country back…

Normally I try not to fill my journal with political rants. Some things, however, are just too jaw-dropping to ignore. Yesterday, 135 years to the day after the last American President (Ulysses S. Grant) suspended habeas corpus, President Bush signed into law the Military Commissions Act of 2006. It’s is now, at the President’s disgression […]
