Orchestra concert this weekend

The Bucks County Symphony Orchestra will be having their winter concert on Sunday February 20 at 3pm in the auditorium of Central Bucks High School East. The guest artist performance will feature Natalie Zhu on piano performing Chopin’s Piano Concerto No 1. The orchestra focused works are Beethoven’s Overture to Creatures of Prometheus, Wagner’s Overture to Rienzi and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol.

I will be performing on bass clarinet to cover the serpent part in the Wagner piece. I will also be helping on percussion in the Rimsky-Korsakov.

I have 2 complimentary tickets that are available to anyone who would like to attend. Otherwise the concert is $18 for adults and students are free.

For those of you who are a little intimidated by an orchestra concert or who are not familiar with classical works this concert will be of moderate complexity. It’s not going to be as light as the Boston Pops on PBS, but it should be quite palatable. There is a good chance you might recognize themes in all but the Wagner piece.

And just a reminder that the pops concert is coming up this year on April 2nd. It will be the usual format of picnic-dinner-and-a-concert at the Delaware Valley College community hall. This year will be strongly flavored of broadway and should be a good show. Hopefully enough folks can take time off that we might be able to build our own table and have fun. 🙂

  1. Heh…you’re having your concert on the same day that I’m having mine… Lamar University Wind Ensemble and Concert Band are performing on Sunday at 6 p.m. at Beaumont’s First United Methodist Church, where we in the Wind Ensemble will be performing “Fanfare for a Golden Sky” by Scott Boerma, “Ballad for Band” by Morton Gould, “American Guernica” by A. Hailstork, “Who Puts His Trust in God Most Just” by J. S. Bach (and I forget who arranged it :P), and “Symphony No. 2, Mvt. III: Appollo Unleashed” by Frank Ticheli.

Anyways…have a good time with your concert, and I hope you all do well!

If those tickets are still open and either th’ buni or th’ fox are up for it, we may possibly do that… though it really depends on how everyone’s feeling here. Let me know, and I’ll talk with them about it.
