Rip Roaring Ragtime

'music your grandmother liked'

The New HOTS Jazz Orchestra is a 12 piece 1920s-40s style "hot" dance band specializing in the preservation and performance of music from the turn-of-the-century ragtime through the flapper and early swing eras. HOTS features composers and arrangers like Scott Joplin, Jellyroll Morton, Eubie Blake, Fats Waller, Fletcher Henderson, Bennie Moten, Tommy Dorsey, Bennie Goodman, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, and Duke Ellington.

HOTS offers delightful journeys back to the Naughty '90s, the Roaring '20s, the Jazz Age '30s, and the Swing Era '40s complete with period costumes, instrumentation, and arrangements. The music is rhythmic and exciting, the melodies are tuneful and familiar, and most important, HOTS generates fun and excitement.

HOTS' DANCE PROGRAM provides the flavor of the old-time "Hotel Roof Garden Orchestra" of the great dance hall era. HOTS' dances always include Grand Marches, Paul Jones and other mixers to keep the crowd moving and to allow everyone to dance. HOTS can concentrate on the authentic repertoire and dances of a narrow period, or can bridge the entire jazz era for general modern ballroom dancing. HOTS can arrange a one-hour pre-dance program of instruction in the dance steps of the era- like cake walk, fox-trot, waltz, rhumba, tango, maxixe, schottisch, polka, Charleston, Black bottom, Varsity Drag, Shag, Lindy, Hop and Jitterbug.

HOTS' CONCERT PROGRAM offers an entertaining show featuring vocalist singing Victorian parlor songs, Broadway show stoppers, Tin Pan Alley pop tunes, the low-down blues of Bessie Smith; sing-alongs and other audience participation numbers; and may add tap, ballroom, and swing dancers demonstrating the authentic dances of the period.

HOTS' PARADE UNIT can march as a New Orleans Brass Band with the sponsor's fielding a "Second Line" of gaily clad strutters twirling colorful parasols, or can serenade as a uniformed gazebo concert band of the sunny John Philip Sousa military and circus band days.

Bring the excitement, romance, and gaiety of the 1920s-40s to your next function! Feature HOTS in concert, or plan an afternoon Great gatsby Lawn party or Tango Thé Dansant. Plan a Prohibition Era Cotton Club Evening or a fancy-dress Victorian Ragtime Ball. HOTS will bring the festivities to life with its crowd-pleasing antics. Keep up to date on the HOTS engagements in your area! For information, contact us.
