College / University Transfer Program
Degree:Associate in Arts & Sciences
Major:College/University Transfer
Length:Four-semester (two-year) program

The College/University Transfer Program offers a core of college-level general education courses equivalent in content to those taken by freshmen and sophomores at four-year colleges and universities. The goal of this program is to provide students with a broad introduction to some of the major fields of study in the liberal arts as well as the foundation necessary for success in upper-level college courses. The program is designed for students who intend to continue their studies by transferring to a senior institution. The BRCC College/University Transfer Program is a generic program that can be structured to fulfill the basic transfer requirements for a variety of academic majors offered at senior institutions. Students entering this program should demonstrate the academic potential to pursue and earn a baccalaureate degree. Full-time students can complete this program in two years. Part-time students determine their own pace.

In order to transfer to a baccalaureate degree program at a four-year college or university, students, in conjunction with their Blue Ridge Community College faculty advisor, should plan courses carefully to meet the specific requirements of the senior institutions they are considering. At the earliest possible opportunity, students should discuss educational plans with the admissions officers at these senior institutions to determine which Blue Ridge courses are accepted for transfer.

Transfer articulation agreements currently exist with the following state institutions: James Madison, Longwood, Mary Washington, Old Dominion, Radford, Virginia Commonwealth and William and Mary. Students who complete the Blue Ridge Community College A.A.&S. degree in College Transfer who transfer to any of these institutions will have met all lower division general education requirements of that institution. Please note that these agreements do not guarantee admission into these institutions nor do they imply that each individual community college course will transfer. Further information on these agreements and those with other Virginia institutions is available in the Counseling Center.

Transfer guides for state-supported, four-year colleges are also available in the Counseling Center. These guides can help determine which specific community college courses will transfer to various four-year, state-supported colleges. Transfer guides for several private four-year colleges also are available in the Counseling Center.

Admission Requirements: A high school diploma or the equivalent is required for entry into this program. Applicants are encouraged to have the following minimum high school units (or the equivalent): 4 units of English; 2 units of college preparatory mathematics (Algebra I & II); 1 unit of a laboratory science; 1 unit of a social science.
