The Associate in Applied Science Degree in Mechanical Design Technology is designed
primarily for persons who seek full-time employment in the area of mechanical
engineering technology immediately upon completion of the community college
program. Persons who are first seeking employment in the area of mechanical
engineering technology or who seek a promotion may benefit from this program.
Specifically, the objectives of the program are to prepare graduates for careers
as engineering assistants, mechanical engineer technicians, industrial engineer
technicians, quality control technicians, material testing technicians, and
technical salespeople. Technical electives can be selected to suit the
student's specific career objectives.
Many graduates continue on to Old Dominion University (ODU) or other four-year
colleges for their junior and senior level courses in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science
in Engineering Technology. The ODU courses can be taken on campus at BRCC via Satellite
(TELETECHNET).
Admission Requirements: Applicants should have a high school
diploma or the equivalent. Other prerequisites include completion of algebra I
and geometry. Drafting, mechanical drawing, or basic machine shop classes are
also helpful.
* For a full-time student, part-time students determine their own
pace.
